The electric brake had locked solid, stopping the scooter from moving at all. After carefully removing the brake, I was able to free it up, clean it, and reassemble it โ€” and the scooter ran perfectly again. Normally, a replacement brake is required in cases like this, but with a bit of time and care, this one was saved. โš ๏ธ Important safety note: Never operate or store a mobility scooter with the brake disconnected. In today's video I'm looking at a Pride Jazzy Zero Turn mobility scooter that has come in for repair. The customer who originally owned the scooter stored it outside without a cover, and after about a year it decided to stop working. In Ireland , rain is very common so it's probably had 100 gallons of rain pour on it over the past year. In today's video which I thought could go either way in terms of fault finding, I covered various aspects of what the problem could be and worked out way through the fault finding. As you'll see on the video it was quite an easy diagnosis and repair , and also common to all brands of scooters in the market. See how I diagnose and repair the issue with some additions advice of best practices etc. Stick around til the end where I managed to get the mobility scooter up and running and looking pristine again. In todayโ€™s step-by-step tutorial, Iโ€™m replacing the batteries on a Komfi Rider Aerolite mobility scooterโ€”a compact and lightweight model designed to split apart for easy transport in the boot of a car. The Aerolite uses two 12V deep cycle AGM batteries housed in a removable battery box, making this repair very beginner-friendly. Unlike larger scooters where the batteries are buried inside the chassis, this design allows for much easier access and is perfect for those wanting to learn some basic maintenance. โš ๏ธ Important Note: This video specifically covers mobility scooters with lead acid (AGM) battery systems. It does not apply to suitcase-style folding scooters that use lithium batteries, which follow a different replacement process and safety precautions. If your Aerolite scooter is losing charge quickly, cutting out unexpectedly, or has gone completely flat, the batteries may be due for replacement. Most AGM mobility scooter batteries last around 2 to 3 years depending on usage and charging habits. This job usually takes just 20 to 30 minutes and can save you a service call. In todayโ€™s in-depth tutorial, Iโ€™m showing you how to diagnose and repair a common fault where a mobility scooter cuts out when going over bumps or dropping off kerbsโ€”even light ones. This fault is usually caused by a faulty brake micro switch, most commonly an SS-5 switch or similar. This switch is found on the electromagnetic brake at the rear of the scooter. The purpose of the brake is to remain engaged until you move the throttle, at which point it clicks and releases, allowing the scooter to drive. For safety, thereโ€™s a built-in switch that detects whether the freewheel lever has been activated. If this fails, the scooter cuts out as it thinks itโ€™s not safe to drive. This switch must always be replaced, never bypassed. We also cover how to diagnose the fault properly, as most mobility scooters have inbuilt self-diagnostic systems. In this video, I show you some basic steps to help confirm if the issue is truly with the brake switch, before replacing anything. Itโ€™s best to do the repair with the brake still mounted to the motor, as removing it can make reassembly difficult. Youโ€™ll need to remove the wheel, and sometimes a weather cover too. Be careful not to lose the key (a small bar that locks the wheel hub to the axle). Always take a photo of the old switch wiring before removal. Solder the new switch carefully, and use shrink wrap to help seal and weatherproof the joints.
